"Y's" is a beautiful transformation from her previous release "The Milk-Eyed Mender" showing off Newsom's newfound vocal control and vibrato skills. Her harp sounds enchanting as usual, this time accompanied with a backing orchestra. As if the album could not stand as it is Bill Callahan ,a.k.a. Smog, makes a lovely appearance on the fourth of only five tracks. For those looking for something a little out of the ordinary Joanna Newsom is a must.

Y's
For anyone that hasn't heard her yet, Joanna Newsom's distinct style combines harp with a voice resembling an aged Lisa Simpson. That comparison can be deceiving as she still manages to somehow come across sounding beautiful. The fluctuations in her voice and the plucking of strings leaves one feeling fuzzy inside and thirsting for more.
